Ars Auditus Migration Workshop Guide

Student Writing Workshop on Acoustics

Overview

This workshop focuses on migrating articles from Ars Auditus to Wiki.Audio, helping preserve and modernize key materials on acoustics, psychoacoustics, and auditory physiology.

We have set up the final snapshot of the Ars Auditus website for reference:

Articles to Migrate

The lists of wanted articles for the Psychoacoustics and Physiology sections are included below. Please coordinate with your team to avoid working on the same article.

How to Begin

  1. Find your article in the list and locate its corresponding .zip file in the Resources folder.
  2. Download and unzip the folder. Inside, you will find:
    • Article-[name].pdf
    • Related image and/or sound files.
  3. Review the PDF. Each PDF includes:
    • The content of the original article
    • A link to the archived version of the article (for reference)
    • Embedded images, including any "mouse-over" variants
    • Linked sound files and their labels
    • Links to other articles
    • Lists of popup windows with their linked resources

Note that the original online versions often included interactive elements such as hover images and popup information boxes. These need to be adapted to the Wiki.Audio format.

Migration Tips

You can copy the text of the original article, then from the folder you downloaded, grab the related resource (picture or sound file) and drop it in the visual editor. It will then be uploaded and attached to your wiki article.

If the original article contains any links to other articles, you can add them as links to the wiki articles, these appear in the link drop-down in the visual editor.

If the original article opens popups windows, see below.

Because Wiki.Audio has different formatting and feature support, you will need to decide how to best represent interactive content:

Attribution

Be sure to credit the original author and image creator, Martina Kremer, at the end of each article.

Technical Assistance

The technical support team will be available throughout the Hackathon to help with any migration or formatting issues.
